Case Study: A Fintech Firm’s Office Fit-Out Success
About the Client
The client is a leading international fintech company headquartered in New York. They build electronic trading platforms for a global network of finance clients. When they opened a new London office, they selected Technology Desking to furnish it. We designed, manufactured, and installed 136 new desks for them.
While fintechs have embraced home working, many are now realising the importance of the office. It was essential to furnish the office in a way that enhanced collaboration and provided a comfortable ergonomic environment to work in.
Challenges:
1. Tech workers do long hours of focused work. We had to provide ergonomic office desks that help with employee’s focus and comfort.
2. Most of the desks we installed had three monitors. The desks needed to be wide enough to support these. Also, the monitor arms had to be robust enough to hold multiple monitors without creating extra clutter on the desk. With this in mind the single central monitor arm pole option ZGO ZPX system was chosen for the job.
The ZPX can support up to 6 x 38” monitors from one desk mounted post.
3. The client needed extra power and data sockets on each desk. Given the nature of fintech work, employees rely on multiple devices. These can include high-performance computers, multiple monitors, and other peripherals. The power and data connections had to be easily accessible to maintain workflow efficiency and minimise downtime.
4. This was a large project with 136 desks to install, requiring careful planning and coordination. Given the number of workstations, the project needed efficient logistics, precise scheduling, and expert installation to ensure minimal disruption to the client's operations.
5. The client wanted a bespoke colour scheme for the furniture and monitor arms. As a leading fintech company, maintaining a professional and cohesive look was essential. The workspace had to reflect the brand's image and values.
6. Fintech workers use multiple monitors and other tech, so the desks needed a robust cable management system. This is to avoid having a messy tangle of cables under the desk.
Solutions
1. Height adjustability: The desks we supplied were height adjustable, meaning users can bring the desktop to their ideal viewing level. They can also alternate between sitting and standing, which reduces fatigue and helps focus. The ability to change positions while working helps prevent health issues caused by sedentary posture. This is vital as fintech employees often work long hours.
2. Zgo monitor arms: Technology Desking fitted all the desks with Zgo monitor arms. These are specialist monitor arms designed to support multiple monitors. One monitor beam supports three monitors, reducing clutter and creating a clean aesthetic. Zgo arms also enable users to adjust the monitor height finely. This level of adjustability helps employees stay comfortable while doing long hours of focused work.
3. Power and data units: We installed desktop connectivity units. Each unit had power sockets and various ports, including charging, data and AV connectivity. The units were white to match the desks. They sit on top of the desk, so users don't have to interrupt work to lean under the desk to plug things in.
4. Project management: Our project management team oversaw the installation of 136 desks. To guarantee seamless setup and integration, we dispatched expert staff to the client's base. They provided direct supervision and support throughout the installation.
5. Custom colours: We provided white desks and black monitor arms to meet the client's specifications. These fitted the client's brand aesthetic and gave the workspace a modern, professional look.
6. Cable management: A robust cable management system was essential since most desks had more than one monitor and other equipment. We installed cable chains under each desk. Cable chains consist of interconnected links through which the cables are routed. This keeps cables discreetly stored so they don't impede the user or look unsightly. The links are quick release for easy cable installation and maintenance.
The result
This was a large-scale project that Technology Desking was able to deliver successfully. With over 136 desks to install, the project presented key challenges. We had to ensure the desks we provided were designed to be durable, ergonomic and stylish.
