Case study: Meeting the complex needs of a global investment firm
When a leading global investment management firm sought to expand its operations across North America, Europe, and Asia, it faced the monumental task of equipping each new site with specialised desks for its traders and support staff while managing the complexities of global logistics.
With offices in diverse locations such as Bangalore, Dubai, and New York, the firm required a customised solution that could support the intricate needs of its high-tech trading environments. It enlisted Technology Desking to design and deliver desks to its locations worldwide.
Challenges:
1. Traders use multiple screens, so the desks had to support large monitors in a tiered arrangement. Because of this, they needed a special monitor arm mounting system capable of supporting the weight of the screens while allowing the flexibility to adjust, add, and remove monitors.
2. The client required multiple fixed-height desks to be converted into electric height adjustable desks.
3. Traders use a lot of tech, so the client needed extra power and data outlets on each desk.
4. The trading desks needed robust under desk storage. Traders often use more than one powerful PC requiring specialist cabinets. Users also required space to store personal belongings.
5. Furniture had to be installed at sites across the world, presenting a complex logistical challenge.
6. The client needed desks for workers with differing roles and needs, from admin staff to full traders. They also wanted desks installed for homeworkers.
7. As the company evolved and changed, it required ongoing support with its furniture needs.
Solutions:
1. Smartarm Monitor Arms: Technology Desking fitted all the desks with SmartArm monitor mounting system. We designed these to support multiple monitors. Adding and removing monitors is quick and easy, and you can finely adjust monitor height. Users can have their screens in either landscape or portrait orientation. They can also add extensions with no disruption to existing monitors.
2. Height-Adjustable Desks: The clients liked our height-adjustable desks and decided they would like to convert some of their existing TD fixed desks into sit-stand desks. We shipped conversion kits to them so their fitters could adapt the desks to make them height-adjustable. The kits were sent to their locations around the globe, ensuring a smooth transition.
3. Technology Links Units: We installed our custom-designed TechnologyLinks desktop units. Some traders had two of these on their desks, one for power and one for data. Each of the Technology Links units has power sockets and a variety of different ports. They have plenty of USB ports, along with LAN and microphone sockets. Technology Desking customised these bespoke units for the client's data and power needs.
4. PC Storage Cabinets: Technology Desking designed specialist below-desk PC storage cabinets. These are elevated to allow legroom underneath so traders can stretch their legs and stay comfortable during long working hours. Additionally, we provided below-desk pedestals for convenient storage of personal belongings, keeping the workspace tidy and efficient.
5. Global Project Management: Our project management team oversaw the installation of hundreds of desks at the client's sites worldwide. We shipped the desks and equipment from our UK warehouse to the client's bases across three continents. To guarantee seamless setup and integration, we dispatched expert staff to each location, providing hands-on oversight and support throughout the installation process.
6. Diverse User Needs: We catered to diverse users, from trading desks packed with integrated features to simpler bench-style desks for administrative staff. Additionally, we supplied desks for remote workers to use at home, ensuring everyone had a workspace tailored to their requirements.
7. Ongoing Support: Our support continued after the installation. We provided ongoing assistance with upgrades, relocations, and additional desks and equipment as the company continued to grow. The Result:
Our client had over 1000 desks installed at their locations across three continents. With our long experience of international installations we were able to fulfill the clients' requirements.
Most of the desks were height-adjustable, allowing traders to stand for part of the working day. Alternating between sitting and standing has excellent ergonomic benefits. It helps reduce the risk of neck and back pain and maintains alertness.
