Technology Desking works with independent consultancy to assess the sustainability of our products
In a commitment to environmental responsibility, we took a comprehensive look at the sustainability of our desks. We worked with Dragonfly Sustainability, an independent specialist consultancy. Their evaluation of Technology Desking’s products included manufacturing processes, materials used, and finished goods.
DT11 sustainability
Dragonfly Sustainability prepared a Product Environment Scorecard (PES) for Technology Desking, assessed against internationally recognised standards. They designed the PES to provide reliable, accurate and verifiable data on the environmental profile of our products.
The collaboration with Dragonfly Sustainability underpins Technology Desking's commitment to sustainable and environmentally conscious product design and manufacturing.
We make our best-selling desk, the DT11, with 48% recycled products. Once it reaches the end of its useful life, a whopping 97% of the materials in its construction can be recycled further. This level of sustainability is due mainly to the high percentage of aluminium and steel used in its construction. Both metals can be recycled infinitely without losing their original properties, making them the ultimate sustainable materials.
SmartArm sustainability
The Smartarm, another of our top-selling products, is made of 39% recycled content. Incredibly, 92% of its composition can be recycled further. Again this is because it's constructed chiefly with aluminium and steel, both highly recyclable materials.
Technology Desking make desks with a higher-than-average percentage of steel and aluminium and only minimal use of MDF. This high percentage of metals helps a lot with their recyclability.
Another factor Dragonfly considered was that Technology Desking manufacture their furniture within the UK (our US business manufactures in the US). Buying locally manufactured furniture reduces your carbon footprint substantially. The manufacturers will have produced it under tighter environmental regulations that restrict carbon emissions and ensure safe chemical disposal. For example, companies in the US and UK can face hefty fines if they don't dispose of industrial waste securely and responsibly.
